SkillOnNet, the operator group behind PlayOJO, has been granted a licence to offer online gambling in Finland, putting it among the first private operators cleared for the country’s newly regulated market.

The licence was issued by Finland’s National Police Board, which oversees gambling in the country. The market opens to licensed online casino and sports betting operators on 1 July 2027.

An end to the Veikkaus monopoly

The new framework replaces the long-standing monopoly of state-owned Veikkaus with a competitive licensing system. For the first time, approved private operators will be allowed to serve Finnish players, under strict regulatory conditions.

Interest has been strong. The National Police Board had received 75 applications by late September 2026. Suppliers are also positioning themselves: Gaming Corps recently signed a content deal with Veikkaus ahead of the opening.

SkillOnNet runs more than 40 online casino brands in regulated markets, including PlayOJO, DrückGlück, BacanaPlay and Genting Casino. The group said the Finnish licence supports the next phase of its expansion in the Nordic region.

Maor Nutkevitch, Head of Corporate Development at SkillOnNet, said:

“Finland represents a fantastic opportunity, with a strong digital culture and a clear commitment to creating a safe, competitive, and sustainable online gaming environment.

“We’re delighted to be among the early operators to receive approval, and we look forward to bringing our experience, innovative gaming products, and player-first approach to Finnish customers when the market opens next July.”
