This policy sets out how Gamblita reports on the gambling industry and what readers can expect from us. It applies to everything we publish on gamblita.com and in our newsletters.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by the Gamblita newsroom. Advertisers, sponsors, sources and partners have no say over what we cover, how we cover it, or when we publish. Buying advertising does not buy coverage, and declining to advertise does not affect it.
Gamblita is a B2B news publication. We do not offer, promote or facilitate gambling, and we accept no gambling affiliate commissions in editorial content. We do not include affiliate tracking links in our journalism.
Sourcing
We report from primary sources wherever possible, including regulator notices and decisions, court documents, legislation, company filings and official statements. We attribute information clearly so readers can see where it came from.
- We name sources unless there is a good reason not to, such as a risk to the source’s job or safety.
- We use anonymous sources only when the information is important and cannot be obtained on the record, and we explain why the source is not named.
- We do not pay for information.
- Figures such as revenue, player numbers or market share are reported as stated by the company or body that published them, unless we say otherwise.
Accuracy
We aim to get things right first time. Before publication we check names, figures, dates and quotes against the source. Where a story involves allegations or regulatory action against a company or person, we seek a response from them and report it, or say that they did not respond.
We distinguish between what is confirmed, what is reported elsewhere and what is claimed. If we are relying on another publication’s reporting, we credit it.
Corrections
When we make a mistake, we fix it and say so. Significant corrections are noted with a dated note at the end of the article explaining what was changed. Minor fixes such as typos may be made without a note. To report an error, email [email protected] with the article URL and what is wrong. Our corrections page has more detail.
How we label content
Every piece we publish falls into one of these types, and we label it so readers know what they are reading:
- News: factual reporting of events and announcements.
- Analysis: reporting that explains context and likely consequences, based on evidence. Analysis may reach conclusions but is not opinion.
- Opinion: signed commentary reflecting the author’s own views, not those of Gamblita.
- Sponsored: content paid for by a partner. It is always labelled Sponsored and kept separate from our journalism.
- Press release: material published as received from a company or organisation, labelled Press release. We do not edit these for substance and they do not represent our reporting.
When a press release is newsworthy, we usually rewrite it as a news story with our own reporting rather than copying it.
Responsible gambling in our coverage
We write for industry professionals, not players. Our coverage follows these rules:
- We do not publish odds, betting tips, predictions or promotional offers.
- We do not promote any gambling product or operator to consumers.
- We cover gambling harm, responsible gambling measures and enforcement as serious subjects.
- Our content is intended for adults aged 18 and over.
Our responsible gambling page lists organisations that offer free, confidential help.
Use of AI
AI tools may assist our research and drafting, for example summarising long documents or suggesting a structure. They do not replace our journalists. Every story is checked and edited by the newsroom before publication, and the newsroom is responsible for everything we publish. We do not publish AI-generated images presented as real photographs of events or people.
Images
Images are credited. We use images supplied by companies with their permission, licensed images and our own graphics. Where an image is illustrative rather than of the event described, we make that clear.
Conflicts of interest
Our journalists do not write about companies in which they hold a financial interest, and they do not accept gifts or hospitality that could influence coverage.
Opinion and contributors
We welcome opinion submissions from people working in and around the industry. Contributors must disclose their employer and any relevant interests, which we publish alongside the piece. Send pitches to [email protected].
