Backseat Gaming has launched a new line of slots built around cultural moments and online trends, and its first release takes its theme from the dual-screen phones now turning up in more players’ pockets.

The line, called Trending games, sits outside the studio’s regular roadmap. Titles will be developed on an accelerated timeline so they can reach players while a trend is still generating interest.

A second screen that stays locked

The first game, Hold the Phone, is a 5×5 slot with classic symbols drawn in a cartoon style. A second reel set sits opposite the main grid and stays locked during base play, a nod to the growing popularity of folding, double-screen devices.

For operators, Backseat Gaming pitches the line as a source of recognisable themes for timely marketing campaigns, streamer partnerships and social content. Founded in 2023, the studio releases a game every week on its own in-house remote game server.

Espen Oeye, co-founder and CEO at Backseat Gaming, said:

“The market is full of similar themes, and players notice when a studio is genuinely in touch with what’s happening around them. Trending games let us move at the speed of culture, building around moments people are already talking about and sharing.

“Hold the Phone is just the start. For our operator partners, it’s a chance to be the first place players look when a moment takes off, with a ready-made story to power their content offering.”
