Stakelogic has released Sunken City Riches, a 1,024-ways slot set in the flooded ruins of a lost civilisation. Its main idea is persistence: features unlocked by collecting scatters stay active for the rest of the session instead of resetting, and the top multiplier reaches 15,000x.

Two meters running at once

Treasure Map Scatter symbols can land anywhere on the reels and feed two meters at the same time. The Treasure Map Meter unlocks a new feature for every four scatters collected:

  • Payway Maker copies a random symbol from reel one across the other reels to build a winning way.
  • Symbols Upgrade turns a random paying symbol into the highest-paying one.
  • Add Wild Multipliers places one to three multiplier wilds on the grid.
  • Split Symbols splits up to 10 symbols of different types.

Once unlocked, each feature can trigger at random on later spins, and several can land together. The Gem Meter banks the multiplier carried by each scatter, from 1x green gems up to purple gems worth 500x to 1,000x. When 20 gems are collected, the Mystery Pick Bonus begins: players pick gears until the Collect Gear appears, and the banked multiplier is applied to the stake.

Wilds appear on reels two to five and can be split and multiplied. Three or more Free Spins Scatters start the free spins round, where at least one feature is guaranteed on every spin and retriggers add three to five spins. Super Stake costs an extra 50% of the base bet and doubles the chance of triggering free spins, and the bonus can be bought for 100x the stake.

Instead of handing players one feature and then resetting, the Treasure Map Meter keeps adding to what the reels are capable of, so the game a player is looking at after some spins is not the same game they started with.

Persistent, collect-to-unlock mechanics are becoming a common way for studios to keep base-game play interesting. Booming Games took a similar route this month with the locking PowerGrid feature in Primal Buffalo PowerGrid.
